About Sonaya

After growing up in the Bronx as the daughter of a Caribbean immigrant, I never imagined I’d become an international family strategist helping women create extraordinary lives abroad. My journey began when love led me to England, and what started as a leap of faith has evolved into a decade of global living across three countries with my husband and two daughters, Mia and Elise.

As an entrepreneur who has built and scaled businesses on three continents, I understand firsthand the challenges and opportunities of recreating your professional identity abroad. My background in digital systems and business development gave me the flexibility to work from anywhere-a freedom I’m passionate about helping other women achieve.

My family’s transitions through England, Denmark, and now Qatar have taught me invaluable lessons about raising global children, maintaining family connections across oceans, and creating community in unfamiliar places. These experiences inspired me to found Your Expat Life, where I’ve helped hundreds of families navigate their own international journeys.

I believe that moving abroad isn’t just about changing your location-it’s about questioning what we’ve been told is “normal” and why we continue living within systems that don’t serve our deepest values. When I’m not helping women reimagine their lives beyond borders, you’ll find me exploring local markets with my daughters, hosting virtual cooking sessions with my mother back in America, or enjoying the sunset from our Doha balcony.

My mission is simple: to help you challenge the status quo and recognize that the “default setting” of American life aren’t the only options. There are countless ways to create safety, joy, and meaning for your family- ad sometimes the most extraordinary possibilities exist beyond familiar borders.
